WELCOME
TO BBE WEBSITE
Since 1994 the Trustees,
Staff and volunteers of Brent Business for the Environment (BBE) have
worked with the aim of improving the, air, soil and water quality for
the residents of North West London.
To meet the increasing
demand on the urban environment BBE designs and delivers local projects
within two main programmes.
THE SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY
PROGRAMME (SCP) creates positive impacts by involving people to actively
participate in organic horticultural methods on four sites in NW London.
- BBE propagates
Heritage seeds (Dors Close) that form the basis for the planting thus
encouraging local organic methods and demonstrating the health benefits
to mankind.
- One site (Birchen
Grove) has been developed to meet the needs of the disabled or elderly
members of the community.
- Another (Dog Lane)
is a design demonstrator for urban gardening opportunities whilst the
Community Garden at South Kilburn offers 3000 Households the opportunity
to learn in a safe family setting.
- SCP supports a
local fruit and vegetable cooperative that delivers subsidised Food
Boxes on a fortnightly basis.
- SCP created a Reed
Bed at the Welsh Harp open space to clean the overspill from the North
Circular Road before it reached the Reservoir.
- Each year SCP undertakes
free Herbs for Health and Trees for Health events and to date nearly
1000 fruit trees have been planted in NW London's gardens (19% of the
land area of Brent is gardens).
THE SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS
PROGRAMME mitigates the negative environmental impacts of mankind's production
and consumption by involving companies, corporations and household in
identifying their environmental performance indicator.
