Grassroots Produce Fayre Traders Food Co-op

Location: Unit 18 Peel Precinct, Carlton Vale, NW6

BBE has been instrumental in the formation of this volunteer led social enterprise whose aims are to increase access to high quality affordable fruit and vegetables for their 61 members. Following the success of the Co-op launched April 2001 Grassroots Produce will be operating a full time shop service and Food Box scheme in mid 2003.

Little Acorn Garden & Tool Club

Location: Stonebridge

BBE continues to support this resident based community group (constituted June 2001) whose aims are:

· To contribute to the environmental improvement of the new houses and flats
· To instil and encourage pride in residents in their living environment
· To encourage residents to get involved in organic gardening and the growing of fruit and vegetables.

To enable this, BBE donated £767 of garden tools and equipment to the group, to establish a community tools for loan scheme based in Stonebridge Shopping Precinct.

Planting for Wildlife

BBE's highly successful programme of initiatives encouraging a healthier and more productive use of green space, Regular programme of events include:

"Herbs for Health"
673 persons introduced to "sowing and growing" herbs whilst actively promoting sustainability - peat free compost, recycled pulp pots and perennial herbs.

"Trees for Health"
230 fruit trees distributed (valued at over £3,500) during National Tree Week 2000, 2001 and 2003 in Chalkhill, Stonebridge, Kingsbury, Kilburn and Church End. Multiple benefits including:
· Economic and health benefits of free seasonally fresh fruit on a sustainable basis.
· Increased carbon sink capacity and thereby improved air quality.
